MBK Curriculum Outline

There are 5 levels of Hindi classes for Elementary students and 3 levels for Secondary students (grade 7th - 12th).
Elementary Level Classes are currently being held in Fremont, Milpitas, Saratoga, Los Altos, Palo Alto and San Jose.
We are looking into adding classes in Millbrae/Burlingame/Foster City area for 2009-10 school year.
Class size ranges from 5 - 8 students. Enrollment is first come first serve basis upon receipt of registration form and fees.
Parents & Me - This is designed for young children (age 2-4) with emphasis on learning through songs, poems and picture books. Children attend the class with an adult parent or grandparent.
Most students will learn 6-8 poems and build basic vocabulary for fruits, vegetables, animals, colors, body parts etc.
Immersion Group - This is designed for younger students (age 4-5) with emphasis on learning through songs and poems.
Most students learn to recognize Hindi letters and correct pronunciation of Hindi words, build basic vocabulary and learn 8-10 poems.
Level I - emphasizes on learning the vowels (independent and dependent forms), basic consonants and few conjuncts, forming words and simple sentences, counting to 30, names of animals, fruits, vegetables, colors, body parts and relations. Second grade upward students learn the Hindi Dictionary structure.
By the end of the year, most students can understand simple questions, respond appropriately, read simple stories, and write simple words and sentences in Hindi. Students can also sing a few poems.
Level II - Comprehension –There is emphasis on building Vocabulary, conversational and Comprehension skills through short stories.
By the end of the year, students should be able to read short stories and answer related questions in their own words and summarize it. Year end project is to create their own picture book.
Level II_TrackII - Emphasis on reading fluency and comprehension through story books. Students start to read and write words and sentences by the end of the year.
Level III - Students learn about monuments and great personalities of India through biographies and other sources. Grammatical structs are explained to build confidence in forming their own sentences for conversation and for writing stories and essays.
By the end of the year, students should be able to catch incorrect grammar usage.
Level IV - Composition – Focus on developing writing skills (composition), introduction to major festivals of India, and conversations at a store, restaurant, airport and home. Grammar rules learnt earlier will be reviewed. There will be emphasis on remembering common nouns, adjectives and verbs.
By the end of the year, students should be able to write about themselves and their goals in life or their hero.
Level V Advanced – Focus on comprehension of formal Hindi like Hindi News, Current events, and ability to express views and opinion. Preparing students to translate simple documents from English to Hindi.
By the end of the year, students should be able to express their opinion on current events.
For Credit, High School program differs tremendously in curriculum goals, number of students per class, and number of hours per week.
